| Sponsor | tikkyfare | Apr 27, 2006 6:10am | My yoga experience is the "for dummies" experience. I am pretty illiterate about the philosophy of Yoga and all the spiritual parts (I know the mainstream hearsay that there is a deep spritual side to it). I also am lazy to start reading about it, because I sense (hear/see) that there is quite a bit written on the topic.
I started it because I thought it is good stretching. I did some with very basic (e.g. "yoga zone" and "for dummies") video-instructed yoga learning at home. I found that it was good stretching (confirmed), and the breathing bit is a bonus if you have back & neck pains like I do. The breathing is like a massage "from inside". After a 20-min Yoga session, I feel quite like after swimming/sauna/massage session (okay the latter might be a bit better and longer lasting as a feeling, but effects of yoga should last longer when done regularly, right? :)).
Been a while I didn't do any of it though, and I feel that I definetely could use some of that instead of talking about it here :)
*eyes the office door* To leave early or not to leave early, that is the question :) |

| ilya-trofimov | May 13, 2006 1:50am | 2 tikkyfare: I think that practice in yoga is more important then philosophy.
If one just only read books, one cannot understand the real sence of yoga.
Now (after only 6 month :)) I feal real result's - I become more composed and easy-tempered, and don't want to eat every hour!! :)
Yoga helps me to survive in your crazzzy world....
tikkyfare - how can your yoga session takes only 20-min... I'm doing it during 45 min :? |

| Sponsor | tikkyfare | May 24, 2006 12:17pm | 8: Hi ilya-trofimov, I only now saw your message - thanks for the response. The 20-min sessions are designed to be 20-mins, they're video CDs that I have (Amazon has them, it's called "yoga zone").
There are longer ones as well (there are all sorts of Yoga videos out there), I guess 20-mins is the minimum and probably not "respectably" long for those who are serious about it. It's okay for beginners though. |

I very recently got practically all the videos from kundaliniyoga.net [kundaliniyoga.net] ... it's all kundalini yoga as taught by yogi bhajan. About a week ago, I had my first real Ky session... and WOW!!!!!!!
(right now im on the beginner's series lesson 1, and each lesson lasts an hour)... but wow, the effects were instantaneous!
I just had exams at school, so i was all stressed and tense and sick with worry... i did yoga, and all my back pain went away, i felt like i was finally breathing! my chest openned up... i felt a lightness in the head and body... i found myself conscious of my poster when walking and sitting... and most of all, i felt deeply relaxed.
needless to say, right after that i took a 2 hour nap, that felt like the deepest and most satisfying sleep ive had in ages. |
